Linda’s Story: A Path To Stability
When we first met Linda in January 2025, she was sleeping in her car with her loyal dog, Lexi, after being scammed out of the money she had. With nowhere else to go, her car became her shelter—and Lexi became her constant source of comfort and protection.
From the beginning, Loaves and Fishes refused to let Linda face homelessness alone.
Over 11 months, our outreach team consistently checked in with her, building trust and providing practical support: meals, showers, essential supplies, and emergency shelter options. At the same time, our staff worked closely with multiple agencies to pursue a long-term solution.
Linda faced significant barriers that made placement difficult—mainly because she was unwilling to be separated from Lexi. But we understood: for many individuals experiencing homelessness, a pet isn’t just an animal—it’s family. And we never stopped advocating for her.
Then tragedy struck. A car fire destroyed Linda’s vehicle—her only shelter—leaving her with nothing.
In that critical moment, with creative thinking and community support, a dear friend of Loaves and Fishes safely transported her more than 250 miles. Linda was reunited with her daughter and connected to the support she needed.
Today, Linda and Lexi are safe with family, and Linda is preparing to move into her own apartment just a few blocks from her daughter. She still checks in with her Loaves and Fishes family often—reminding us that lasting change is possible when people are met with compassion, persistence, and hope.
Linda’s story is a testament to what can happen when a Loaves and Fishes refuses to give up on someone.
